Isaac's 2nd Month

Wow, time flies! I feel like I just finished the post from his 1st month, but here we are at the end of his 2nd month already (here's a video to show a little bit of his personality at the end of 2 months!)!

He is much more alert these days. He still sleeps for the majority of the day, but he does have some more awake time now! He continues to sleep pretty well at nights. I nurse him around 10 or 10:30 or so, and then we'll set him in the bassinette in our room. Although it seems to take awhile for him to settle sometimes, we are all usually asleep by 11:30 (unless we are still up watching the Celtics games!!). He doesn't typically wake up until somewhere around 3:30-4 and I'll nurse him. I decided that it's best if I just pull him in bed with me after that nursing. I started off trying to put him back in the bassinette, but it would take him so long to settle and I would be awake for like an hour, and if I pull him in bed with me, we are asleep in less than 5 minutes! So, in bed with me he comes! He usually will sleep until 6:30-7:30 before he wakes to nurse again. I think it's funny that I consider it a good night of sleep when I get less than 7 hours of sleep and it's broken up sleep at that! But, that is really good mom-sleep, so I'll take it! :) We pretty consistently have 8 nursings a day, so that works out to be about every 3 hours, more or less.

I've decided that when he does that 6:30-7:30 feeding, I need to get up. I was previously trying to go back to sleep, since Kayla often will sleep in well past 8. But then I was waking up to her, and having to carry Isaac and all of his stuff (boppy, nursing notebook, his clothes, a towel if I planned to bathe him, etc) and then deal with her, and it seemed to stress me out. When I get up after that feeding, he and I have a relaxing morning and get to spend a little 1-on-1 time, and then when Kayla wakes up, he's totally tuckered out, so he'll sleep and I'll get to have 1-on-1 time with her. That really helps make my morning run smoothly, so I'm enjoying it, even though I do miss that extra hour of sleep!

He is smiling more and more and he is just so stinkin cute. His smile lights up his whole face! Kayla is really good at making him smile too. She loves to lie down next to him or asks to hold him. When she smiles at him, he smiles at her, and my heart melts! :)

He is getting pretty good neck control. He loves to be held in a standing position, and he is getting really good at holding his head up on his own!

He's starting to be more aware of his hands, rubbing them together or flailing at the toys on his play mat.

We've been doing quite a few picnics in this nice weather and he's enjoyed being outside!

He honestly rarely cries, and he is typically calmed right away when he's picked up or fed. When he does cry, real tears stream down his cheeks! He sometimes has a fussy time in the evenings, but if you hold him in a standing position, he calms immediately!

We had a 2 month check-up and he weighed 11lbs 2oz (50%) and 24 in (75%). He still spits up quite a bit, some feedings more than others. Often we go through the nights with no spitting, but not always. We go through enough burp clothes a day that I need to do laundry every other day to keep up with them.

Just in the last few days he's started to imitate us sticking our tongue out at him! When he does it back, he'll do it and then get this HUGE grin on his face, as if saying, "Look at me! I did it! Did you see me?!" It's super-cute!

I find myself singing this song to him frequently:

Let me call you Sweetheart
I'm in love with you.
Let me hear you whisper that you love me too.
Keep the love light glowing in your eyes so true (*except I sing blue instead of true)
Let me call you Sweetheart
I'm in love with you!

We are very much in love with you, Isaac!

Mother's Day

I had a wonderful heart-themed Mother's Day this year! David took both kids and let me sleep in a little bit. When I woke up, Kayla brought me a huge card that she had colored (she actually made smiley faces with legs and a bow in her hair - the most detailed drawing she's ever made!) and two presents.

The first present is a Polar F6 Heart Rate Monitor. I had asked for this as a present and David followed through! We have a good friend who has one and loves it and I thought it would be a great motivator for me to get myself back in shape and lose my extra baby weight! I've used it a few times and love it! I am such a numbers person, so it's really fun for me to see exactly how my workouts are burning calories!

The other gift isn't actually for Mother's Day, it's a present for giving birth to Isaac. When I was in the hospital with Kayla, David surprised me with a heart-shaped necklace with Kayla's birthstone (peridot) in it. His idea was that when/if we had other children, we would add their birthstones to the necklace. We thought Isaac would be born in April but obviously was born in March (saving us quite a bit of money on the stone, since it's aquamarine not a diamond!!). We brought the necklace to the jeweler to have them add his birthstone to my necklace. David picked it up and surprised me with it on Mother's Day. I absolutely LOVE it and wear it with pride. I am proud to have carried and delivered my two kids and I love that I have something sentimental to commemorate that.

before (picture is of Kayla as a newborn)....... and then the latest (picture is of Isaac at 2 months):

Thanks David for making Mother's Day so special for me! I love having two children. I know I am incredibly blessed to have them and to have a loving and supportive husband. It was nice to spend a restful day reflecting on that!

Tulip Time 2010

We decided to head to Tulip Time this year and see what fun things there were to do. We had NO IDEA how cool it would turn out to be! They had something called "Kinderplaats", which we decided to check out with Kayla. We bought a $6 wrist band for her and she was able to all of the activities for that price! They had about 10 different inflatable things (bounce houses, obstacle courses, slides, etc), petting zoos, arts & craft areas and other fun kid things. We thought we'd be there for an hour or two but we spent about 4 hours there with her! She absolutely loved it and we had so much fun watching her!

After playing for awhile we went on a walk to check out the tulips. Although David & I had been to Tulip Time before, we had never spent time actually looking at the tulips and it was breath-taking. The amount of tulips was astounding and they were just absolutely beautiful.

Later that evening we headed to dinner in Holland and picked up some fudge for the drive home! We had such a blast and will for sure be making this a yearly tradition!
